I need to write to Echolink developers and try and get Bluetooth Audio implemented, I'm quite prepared to use the touch screen for the PTT Button but bluetooth would be nice, is there an Echolink Forum? as I havn't found it yet. iTouch and iPhone had no settings for Mic Gain but sounded very good and didnt need any changes. In fairness to Android OS the HTCs sound fantastic and Echolink on Android offers Mic Gain + & - values in 6dB increments. It connects first time to iTouch (range is very impressive when both devices mounted at neck level standing up),is flawless on the Samsung GS & Nokia N95, all with stereo sound from the media players and Radio Apps and of course calls, voice activated calls etc, in fact it will connect to any 3 Bluetooth devices at once & supports multipoint BUT in Echolink it just dosent work, tapping Settings in Android whilst in Audio Test Room gives you 2 choices 1. Sooo I decided to treat myself to a Stereo Bluetooth Headset from Amazon a Sony MW600 £30. unfortunatly the Samsung Galaxy S or Samsung i9000GT as its known on Android sounds awful, I so wish Echolink incorperated a different selection of Audio Codecs like Team Speak does, the wired headset is a slight improvement on the Samsung GS and I can confirm does work on Echolink! but still a bit "Essy" and a bit muffled, but its readable and loud enough. Not every repeater or link is connected, only. New comments cannot be posted and votes cannot be cast. Ok I we all have alot of different kit these days, I like Echolink and how good it sounds when I have heard stations using the Android HTC Desires and iPhones / iTouches alike. I looked in the iPhone app and there’s I think 4 EchoLink repeaters.

In order to use EchoLink you do need to hold a valid amateur radio license and have that license validated through the EchoLink website. However, with the new EchoLink iPhone app connected to a 3G, Edge or wi-fi network you are set for lots of fun. Using a hand-held transceiver on a train probably isn’t the smartest thing to do. But I see this new app as being just another tool we have in our amateur radio toolbox. Well, the above is perhaps a valid question. Now some may argue the point of why? Why is there a need for an EchoLink iPhone app? Would a ham actually use this iPhone app to connect to a local repeater, call someone on the radio who probably has a cell phone in their pocket? Why not just call them directly via the cell phone? There are 1 alternatives to EchoLink for Windows. See for more information' and is an app in the Social & Communications category. The latest edition in the category of ham radio related iPhone Apps is an EchoLink app. Of course this is made even better when the app is free. Being both an amateur radio operator and an iPhone user, I’m always excited to see a new ham radio related app arrive in the iTunes App Store.
